WordPress 2.2 released

WordPress 2.2 has been officially released earlier today. Apart from over 200 security fixes, these are the most notable changes and improvements:

• WordPress Widgets allow you to easily rearrange and customize areas of your weblog (usually sidebars) with drag-and-drop simplicity.

• Full Atom support, including Atom feeds 1.0 and implementation of the Atom Publishing API.

• A new Blogger importer that handles the latest version of Blogger and imports posts and comments without any user interaction.

• Improvements to comment management - infinite comment stream

• Protection against activation of corrupted or broken plugins

• Core plugin and filter speed optimizations making WordPress a bit more snappy and lighter on the server.

• Base for WYSIWYG support in a future version of Safari.

In addition there are also many UI and accessibility improvements. See the release notes and download WordPress 2.2.
