Safari for Windows
Sat, 13 January 2007
Mary Jo Foley of ZDnet writes an article, claiming Mozilla folks think that Apple might release Safari browser for Windows. While I think this is rather unlikely, it wouldn’t be a bad move for Apple.
I have to agree with Mary in saying that
“there’s another camp that thinks Apple porting Safari to Windows would be pure genius, for the same reason that making iTunes run on Windows was: If you can’t beat the company with a 95 percent desktop operating-system monopoly, why not find ways to infiltrate its empire (and maybe win over some converts, in the process)”.
One thing Apple needs to be wary of, is the security. We all know the OS-X and Safari are very secure, but going into the Windows waters might be very risky business. If they don’t get it right, they may lose the reputation amongst Windows users that they so desperately seek.

I really don’t see why would Apple even bother releasing a Windows version when even its OS X version lags behind other browsers (like Firefox).
It just doesn’t make sense, Apple isn’t Microsoft.

@z-lot
I agree - Safari is way behind Firefox. it was even behind firefox 1.5.
i wouldn’t mind seeing them release safari on windows, but i wouldn’t release it until it surpassed the other browsers in both features and security.

Yes, Apple isnt Microsoft but it may do it to get the name Apple out there to Windows users, it will influence the market in some kind of way.

Somebody already has a Webkit-based browser running under Windows; it’s called Swift (here). All that you would need to do is take that and copy Safari’s interface, which shouldn’t be that hard. Until C’n'D’s from Apple start pouring in, that is.
I think the Apple name is already ‘out there’ for PC users, thanks to iPod+iPhone. Another browser for Windows wouldn’t be the kind of marketing that would make an impact.
I never use Firefox when I’m on Mac. I guess I’m one of the few that consider Safari a superior user experience. Firefox looks crappy and is so slow on my G4 Powerbook that I usually just give up on it.

Theres no reason for them to go into the PC market with another browser. iTunes was a little different in that, people on the PC actually wanted iTunes and the iPod before they released it. There is absolutely no demand for Safari in the PC camp.

Well I dont think so. Apple should bring out Safari for windows. Because PC users need to Know how bad Internet explorer is compared to Safari. As for firefox Safari is just as safe. I disagree with all of the above comments they are obviously PC users and dont know an awfull lot about apple and there products.
