New iMac in early August

Wed, 1 August 2007

It seems that the rumours about new iMac are true after all. Quite a few indicators are telling us that the house of the half eaten fruit is about to release some new products.

iMac, in its current shape, was released in September 2004 with a G5 processor and it had a minor facelift since transition to Intel architecture. The last update of the iMac was nearly a year ago, so the things are definitely cookin’.

Engadget have received Apple’s invitation to “…product presentation for Mac at Apple Town Hall in Cupertino, starting on Tuesday, 7th August 2007. Then, there is leaked new Apple keyboard, that goes well with the rumoured metal-look iMac.

And finally, there is evident shortage of iMacs, well at least here in Australia, which might be an indication of an end of the line for this specific computer type.

There were some rumours that Apple will discontinue Mac Mini, which would be bad decision, in my opinion. I guess that the “product presentation for Mac” next week will be a good opportunity to find out what really happens. I hope they don’t kill the little wonder box, but rather update the specs and drop the prices somewhat. After all, las Mini update was way back in September 2006.

And for the ‘new’ iMac, what about the new design… When you look at the current model iMac, one must wonder how could they possibly make it any better than this. Then I think back, I was thinking the same about the G4 iMac, then came the G5 - wow!

I don’t believe this time they could go this far, but I’m sure they’ll have something spectacular next week for all of us.

  1. Looking forward to this. I’m considering either an imac or a Mac Mini purchase in the near future. I hope the Mac Mini isn’t discontinued as I could save a little money there. But I have the feeling the iMac will be a droolworthy redesign as usual, making me lean in that direction!

  2. I was hoping they would make the new imac look like apple’s cinema display but they made it super igly with the black and the black front logo is distracting.

I hope they update the mac mini because I am not buying the new imac. It’s too ugly for me
