You DO NOT need single-user mode to disable Application Enhancer. Just boot holding shift, and then trash the same files as mentioned in the article. I am surprised how many so-called Apple experts jump over the edge to use single user, Terminal, or root user when Safe Boot or the GUI will get the job done.

Hey, just found you. Similar story except mine hung during installation, then ruined my HD, which was fine (I checked) *just* before inserting the Leopard install disk. This is nuts. Now I can't even reformat the drive. I don't know if your commands will be of much use as I have a (very) wobbly Tiger barely holding together while I try to resolve the situation. I do have a Tiger clone, but yesterday Leopard installer almost killed it too (it was connected when Leopard install crashed, consequently got damaged and needed repairs b/c of that, nice job Apple).

Anyway, can I reformat the drive from the UNIX mode? What would the command be? I think it would be format -[] (<-some letter) ./ ??

Hi All. This damn blue screen thing is driving me crazy. Up to a year ago I was a PC man but now use Macs for ProTools etc. After installing Leopard onto my G4 Dual processor tower I encountered the "blue screen" which stayed on for three hours. I eventually had to shut down the G4 by holding the power button as nothing else would work. I was able to get the disc out. I have done the whole /sbin bla bla bla and still blue screens. I don't have the disc for this mac as I bought it second hand. I was running Tiger Mac OS X 10.4.3 (8F46) before this problem happened. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yesterday I tried installing Jaguar - ended up with a spinning CD for an hour and a blue screen - pulled the plug tried again - same thing.
Ill try some of the tricks on here to get the CD out - but then what? any suggestions?
The computer has been running sluggish off and on - wanna do a complete fresh install.

Thanks!!

This fixed it for my system - http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1545?viewlocale=en_US

Boot mac with issues into Target Disk Mode (hold down T)....delete App Enhancer bundle, reboot.

I recently updated the software on my mac, I've never done this before. I restarted my computer and the blue screen was stuck on there, needless to say I was devastated. How do I fix this problem.. will it go away on its own?

What a pain in the arse!
iTunes won't work, Mail won't work, support tells me to clean my disc and start anew! G4 iBook. Program half installed! Message says install failed yet I have Leopard running...POORLY!
I am real disappointed here having been a big fan of apple...damn, I bought an iPhone, 2 ipods, not to mention Logic and Final Cut. Now my computer is screwed up and the best they can tell me is to erase?
Looks to me like they did not test this to see if it was tamed before they let it out of the cage.
