iPod touch - a few handy tips
Sun, 7 October 2007
Delete a video - you can delete a video from your iPod touch without the need to connect it to the computer and do it through iTunes. From the start page tap the Videos icon, on the next screen decide which one you want to delete, swipe to the left or to the right over the video and tap on Delete icon. Done!
However, this is not going to delete the video in iTunes once you sync your iPod, so if you want to really remove it, delete it in iTunes as well.
Pause a song or adjust the volume while locked - you can use a handy shortcut to do this, simply double-tap the home button and the volume control, back, next, and pause/play controls will come to your screen. No need to unlock, it just works.
Rearrange icons in the Music menu - from the main screen tap Music and on the bottom of the next screen you will see five icons: Playlists, Artists, Songs, Albums and More. If you don’t like this set you can change it. I don’t use playlists but I do listen to lots of podcasts, so I wanted to have a Podcasts icon here. This is how you can do it:
Once you have the five icons on the bottom of your screen, tap on Edit on top-left and you will see another nine icons, on your screen. Pick one (e.g. Podcasts) and drag it onto the one you don’t want (e.g. Playlists) - they’ll swap places. If you want to reorder the five bottom icons, just drag them around, they’ll behave exactly as icons on the OS X Dock. Once you have your new set ready tap Done and that’s it. (see the video)
You can do the same with YouTube set of icons.

Yeah, I’ve had mine since my birthday and I love it! I found out about the double tap music controls by accident. It says how to do that in the manual, but no one looks at those anyway. I don’t know if you already knew about this, but when you are typing in a box and you want to go back to a certain part, you just tap and hold your finger on the text and a magnifying glass will appear. Then just drag your finger to where you want the cursor to be. That way you don’t have to erase everything when you make a typo.

Thanks - I never would have found those. Dragging the music buttons shows even more potential for the interface. Cool.

Tip for ipod touch and iphone!
I have found that by wrapping a clean cloth around my finger it avoids finger marks and grease marks.
Somebody could design a cloth finger sleeve or cloth thimble to use on the ipod touch or the iphone to keep them free of finger marks. Perhaps they could be given away with Mac Magazines or their like. Should anybody take up my idea please send me your first free sample for giving out the surgestion.
Thank you, Derek. clewley421@btinternet.com.
