iPhoto 08 library issues
Fri, 17 August 2007
There is a new way how iPhoto manages the library - it’s stored in a package now. What that means is that you are no longer able to follow the folder structure and dig directly into the original files.
OK, you can do this by opening the package - right-click on the package icon and select Show Package Contents, but this will be ever more difficult if you are not going through Finder, but rather through third-party application.

This is good for one thing, unexperienced user won’t go into the library files and make a mess there, then feel depressed later. But there is one thing I don’t like about it - some applications are no longer able to find the files in library, such as Comic Life. If you try to access the iPhoto library from Comic Life you get the following message:
Comic Life cannot find your iPhoto library. Perhaps you are not using iPhoto or your iPhoto preferences are out of date.
I surely expect Plasq to update Comic Life soon, but there are possibly quite a few applications with the same problem.
Talking about Comic Life, I felt somewhat disappointed that Comic Life is not included with new iMacs. I just got my new 20″ silver iMac and was surprised not to find it as the part of standard package of applications.

I’m not sure if Comic Life came with the old, white iMacs, but it surely comes with MacBook Pros.

Just double-checked, Apple still advertise it on their website. Have a look here http://www.apple.com/au/macbookpro/specs.html - scroll down to software, it clearly states ComicLife … weird.
Umh! It seems Apple are not in a hurry to update their own website, it still shows iLife 06.

I don’t like the idea that they store photos in an app. I generally like to have a bit of control over the things I store in my mac. Sure, show contents work.. but hey..
I’m waiting for you to review iMovie 08. From what I have seen it is pretty good. However, I heard bad comments about missing time lines and stuff..

A testfix of Comic Life has been released that resolves the problem. Head over to this link.
