Happy Birthday !
Sun, 7 January 2007
SilverMac.com is one year old today, woo-hoo! It’s a few minutes past midnight here in Brisbane and I just realised that on this day last year I posted the first article on this website.
Having a cold doesn’t help when you’d like to have a glass of Champagne, but hot green tea from favourite Apple cup will have to do just fine, I guess.

What a year it was. First and foremost, I had lots of fun. And I learned quite a few things about Mac, blogging and especially Digg-effect. The website had a few Digg hits, one of which has resulted in my account being temporarily suspended. But the administrators were kind enough to be there at 3 am and help me install the WP-cache and redirect traffic elsewhere, so the site came back to life in less than two hours.
SilverMac had a total of little over one million page views (1,109,615) as of yesterday, and the most viewed article was Cool things you can do on Mac, with just over 50.000 views.
But the best thing of all are the comments and the numerous emails from happy readers who managed to get a stuck DVD or CD out of their MacBook / MBP.
And yes, I had my part of trouble with Google, too. As I initially installed WordPress from cPanel, and cPanel doesn’t allow you to install WP into the root of your domain (at least not on my host) I naively installed it under /blog/. This caused Google to index my site as a blog (fair enough) and I didn’t have a single entry in the Google’s main search index. I moved the whole WP into the root of my domain some time in April or May, and the pages started appearing nicely in Google’s main index since then.
So, where do the SilverMac pages come from? Below is the photo of the ‘hot desk’ including MacBook Pro and my ham radio station, one of which is always on.

So let’s hope that the next year will be even more exciting, with more fun and entertainment for all of us. With tomorrow’s keynote at Macworld, I’m sure we’ll have many things to talk about.
Thank you all for reading SilverMac.com, for all your nice emails, comments and advices. Without you this site wouldn’t be what it is, and I hope and strive to make it even better in time to come.
So, cheers … ! [me: raising a cup of tea] sigh …
