Fonts incorrectly rendered on silver iMac
Thu, 23 August 2007
There is a possibility that some fonts are rendered incorrectly on your silver iMac running OS X 10.4.10. The font appears left-justified or not smooth in some applications.
To correct this, Apple recommends the following fix:
- Log in with an administrator account (or a user account that allows you to install software, make changes, and so on).
- Open the Terminal application from Applications/Utilities.
- Cut-and-paste (or carefully type) the following text at the prompt:
sudo rm -r /Library/Caches/com.apple.ATS- Press the ‘Enter’ key.
- When prompted for your password, enter the password you use to login (or install software) and press the ‘Enter’ key again.
- Close the Terminal application and restart the computer. The fonts should now look properly rendered.
This affects only silver iMacs (mid 2007 model).

This was a problem on my new iMac. I only noticed it in iPhoto08 though… When I created a new Event, I could not rename the event by clicking on the event name. It would appear as I could type in the text box that appeared, but nothing would happen when I did so. Also the Event labels overlapped the thumbnail images for the Event. I searched and quickly found this solution. Odd that it was a font rendering issue, I thought.

This can also be accomplished by moving that folder to the trash, restarting and emptying the trash.
