I found this tip on another site, by somebody who solved our problem! "I also have a MBP C2D and had problems. I was able to enter the advanced editing by selecting an editing tool, turning on caps lock (let go), then pressing ctrl and 9. Resize the pointer with '[' and ']'." Great news!
