World cheapest MP3 player

Japanes company Evergreen has just released the worlds cheapest MP3 player - DN-2000, costing only 999 Yen (about A$12).

dn-2000_1.jpgThe player is very small, 60×60x13 mm and it comes with neck strap and headphones but no memory. What, no memory? That’s right, it uses the SD card to store your MP3 files and supprts SD cards up to 1GB. The player uses one AAA battery and it runs for about five hours on it.

There is no display but the player has start, stop, volume up and down, next and previous song controls. It also doesn’t have shuffle function and it will play the songs in the same sequence every time. But for the price of a pizza …

    I’d go for the pizza too. Not only is this thing ugly, but once you include the price of the 1GB memory card to store your music on, you’re not significantly cheaper than an iPod Shuffle. The Shuffle’s more attractive, and it fits in your hand / pocket better than this thing, due to its simple shape. Oh, it also has… shuffle.

    It starts off sounding great because it’s $12. Then you dig into the reality of the situation, and it’s not quite as spectacular…

    You’d probably use the sd card that came with some camera or other device you bought and then immediately upgraded the card in. So it’s fair to say it would be a $12 investment for some people.

    Chris…some people don’t care if their mp3 player is ugly.

    Anyway, I could see some people finding it the right product (if you want to travel light or are in a situation where you can’t easily secure your expensive and oh so fashionable ipod) or maybe you don’t make 1st world wages, so an ipod is just out of reach.

    I think that its not as good as a ipod, but I think it would be good for a kid with little money. (That is if their parent’s just got a new camra.)
