Sony to support AAC
Thu, 11 May 2006
Sony Corp. has announced they will support Apple’s data compression format AAC in its latest music management software. This will enable users of some of the portable audio players made by Sony to import and listen music in AAC files.
Sony will release the software called Sonic Stage on 25th May 2006 in a form of free download.
The software will allow iPod users to transfer some of their songs to the Sony players, but only ones they have ripped off their CDs. Music purchased via iTunes Music Store will not play on Sony players as they will not support Apple DRM. So if you are buying, or intend to buy music on iTMS - stick with your iPod.
First we see Apple managing to keep prices down on 99 cents, now Sony supports AAC. Is there ‘One more thing’ somewhere in the air ?
