No invite sign up for Gmail in Australia

Residents of Australia and New Zealand are the first in the world to be able to sign up for Gmail without being invited by existing users.

gmail.jpgFor a while there was another option, you could sign up by providing your mobile phone number (cell phone, for those of you reading this upside-down).

Gmail invites were readily available from other Gmail users through number of websites, forums, usenet news groups, almost everywhere, including your local pharmacy.

Now Aussies and Kiwis are able to sign up just … just like that.

In year 2000 Microsoft tested the ground in several countries, including Australia, with their product activation technology for MS Office 2000. As we all know, the technology was later introduced world wide and has since grown into a chronic pain in the neck.

I wonder if Google is getting very close to getting Gmail out of beta, maybe early 2007.

    The AusEmail email service works with Gmail, Google’s free email service, But the big difference is that you can use your name @AusEmail.net as your email address, if you want a to create a new gmail account for free, with a choice of email address then give AusEmail a try.
