New iMac design
Sun, 27 August 2006
What’s next for Apple’s iMac development department? After world-changing G3 iMac, fabulous G4 lamp design and astonishing G5/Intel iMac what could be possibly done to make iMac even better, cooler, sexier?
Maybe the answer is only one click away. Adam Benton’s vision of 30″ transparent screen iMac is a breath-taking example how “Think Different” can be put into action, if only technology could catch-up.

Adam was commissioned by MacFormat magazine to conceptualise a future iMac to accompany a related article. The result is here. Enjoy!
Update 01 Aug 2007: It seems that new iMacs will be released on 07 August 2007 (nothing like the model pictured above, of course).

Wow that looks SO awesome. Are those small things speakers? I would certainly buy a Mac if they keep that up >.>

What a silly idea. I cannot see the benefit of this - can someone explain it to me?

gerry is a retard , apple is stylish , they have to one up themselves , therefore this would be the next technologically fesabile step, 30% of the reason people buy macs is that they look good,k
but if you perfer your ibm brickpad , i mean thinkpad .

I think some of the people who posted on here think this is actually going to be the next iMac. You are mistaken. This is a concept idea someone designed for a magazine.
Oleg, I can’t see why you can call gerry a retard when you cannot even spell or string a decent sentence together yourself.
Gerry, you are Bill Gates’ dream. Congratulations.

Man I wish that design was true. Sigh! I would definitely buy one of those. Even if it takes up a while to save up for it. :)

isn’t the keyboard the opposite way to those ergonomic ones.
Doesn’t that mean that its like ultra-unergonomic. hehe
oh well…..looks gr8 - shame it isn’t a definite design cos i’d buy it (if they sorted the keyboard out!)

It’s pretty, but I hope the new iMac doesn’t look like this. Getting the screen image strong enough to give a good image basically requires a screen you can’t see through.
I love the look of the keyboard, I’m getting one of those the day it comes out.

Actually there are other pictures of this same model around and you cant see through the screen once everythings up and running.
and are those keys supposed to be designed the same way the buttons were on the 2nd generation ipods?? that’d be rather crazzy id have to say…

This is AWESOME! Apple has always been an innovator in the world of computing & this demonstrates their forward thinking well.
However… what OS is that? By the time this computer would be available to the public would it be around OSXX? It looks a lot like OS9 made colorful.

Actually that is very possible. You can have electronic glasswindows that tint white on the push of a button. You can also have transparent LCD-screens. Those soundboxes can be bought already (soundsticks II or so - standing on my table right now).
But nobody wants to spend the dough on all that kind of geekery. So stop dreaming and think about productivity instead.

How do you access the CD drive? And good luck with graphical work on this one, should it ever be produced.

Transparent screen = no backlighting and the hardware of your computer is always showing through your screen. Why would anyone want this?

This is the ugliest thing I’ve ever seen.
Dandamazo said: Thu, 9 August 2007 at 07:27
Well, actually, if they were using an OLED screen (existing tech — http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/OLED) then not having a back-light wouldn’t be a problem in the slightest. In fact, it would look substantially better. Hardware might show through, but at least there’s no plugs in the future :) well, not in that pic.
Switch the curve of the keyboard round, and then I’d get one.

it looks nice, but wats really bothering me is that thing behind the monitor the goes right down the middle…can some1 fill me in on that 1? y is it so visible? thx
other than that, the keyboard design looks good…i like the curve… and speakers are also “futuristic looking”…

it’s a concept model people! same thing goes for cars, just because a concept car gets good feedback, doesn’t mean they’ll actually produce it (most of’em don’t even work).
read the article and don’t just look at the picture and assume…
“…if only technology could catch-up.”
“Adam was commissioned by MacFormat magazine to conceptualise a future iMac…”
