Most popular Mac OS X applications

I had an idea to make a list of most popular OS X applications, one per category. But then I ran into trouble deciding on which one to list as in most cases there are quite a few ‘best’ applications. Someone might like one, someone else another and I could be using a different one again.

So I included them all. Well, not necessarily all that exist, but those most widely used. Just over a hundred. I was surprised to find out some applications that I have never heard of or never used before, now I can’t live without them, particularly RSS ones.

I just ‘celebrated’ my first year on Mac so I thought someone who is still on a Mac-honeymoon might need a hand in learning the new world. I couldn’t put them all on one page as it gets rather long, so I created a few categories and split the list over several pages, which you can select in the ‘pages’ menu. The ‘utilities’ page is yet to come.

And no, I haven’t included any of the iLife applications, you’ve already got them on your Mac.
