MacWorld San Francisco 2007 prediction
Tue, 21 November 2006
On the 8th of January 2007 Steve Jobs will open the MacWorld with one of his famous keynotes. He already promised that the next year will be one of, if not the most exciting year of new Apple products.
So what’s in the pipeline? Here is my prediction, based on a very unreliable source called world wide web.
iPod - the all new touchscreen video iPod to be announced. Two versions, 30GB and 60GB, same price as the current models. The design will not be what everyone expects - the classic touchscreen, but rather the slide-screen.
The edges of the screen will be active, the bottom short side and both long sides will be touch-sliders, and the top edge will have touch-buttons.Top short side will have two switches, the power and the lock switch, while the opposite side is reserved for dock and earbud plugs.
And the best of all, you will not need any cables to sync it with your iTunes, it’s all wireless.
iTV - will be announced, shipping in late February. The name will not be iTV, but rather something like iHome or iLounge. This thing, whatever they call it, will be very expensive.
iLife 07 - announced, shipping “today”. iPhoto will have a new feature called Timeline, that will work in a similar way the album cover browsing goes in iTunes 7, the 3D thing.
iWork 07 - announced, shipping “today”. No spreadsheet, not a big deal really, just a bunch of new templates, new interface and better integration with other applications.
Mac OS X, 10.5 Leopard. Steve will announce that Leopard is still due to be released in early spring (March?) 2007. Steve will show some new features, most notably resolution independence.
And one more thing, of course. And this is the top-secret feature Steve mentioned earlier this year. My guess is that it’s going to be one of these two things:
Vignetta. Coming from the word Vignette. But what does it do? Similar to Rosetta, Vignetta (WinRosetta) is a virtual layer enabling Windows applications to run on OS X,
Dual boot - OS X and Windows at the same time. Apple, with the help of Intel, have finally mastered technology to control each processor core individually.
Users will be able to boot both operating systems at the same time and will switch between them just like they switch between OS X and Windows using Parallels.
And I have a feeling I have forgotten to say that Steve will once again mention the strongest quarter in iPod sales, that always comes first.
One of the things that will not happen is the iPhone. Contrary to the buzz on the internet, Apple will not announce iPhone until much later in the year, most likely in May.

iWork and iLife will become part of Leopard, “full package”!! iTV will cost $299 as already announced. Leopard will have a new UI. iChat 4.0 will integrate with the new iPhone, and iChat will go windows.

Cool prediction.
I like your thoughts on Vignetta and Dual Boot. If Apple can pull that off, that would be awesome. But, i doubt whether Apple will do Vignetta because of the security issues with all the windows apps.
But he might do Dual Boot we will see….
They could do Vignetta if they can figure out a way to hide OS X files from Windows Apps.
Cheers

Re: iTV, “This thing, whatever they call it, will be very expensive.”
Very expensive being $299, the price Steve announced during the Showtime presentation? :)

ITV is a television channel in the UK (and Northern Ireland, I think). Apple will probably have to come up with another name if they launch it in the UK.

Steve Jobs said iTV is the product code name, not its final name.
