Flash Player 9 rocks

Sat, 1 July 2006

Thanks to Jasenko for pointing it out to me, Adobe has released public beta of their Flash Player 9, version 9.0.18.0. The first impression - well, impresive. Before installing it I went to PowerFlasher and ran the Flash benchmark using Firefox and Safari on Mac with Flash Player 8 and wrote the scores down.

The benchmark runs tests in number of areas; math, controlling structure, bitmap graphics, drawing, masking, video embedding and transparency.

After installing the Flash Palyer public beta 9, I ran the benchmark again. The benchmark scores are below:

  • Flash Player 8 - Firefox 474, Safari 568
  • Flash Player 9 - Firefox 958, Safari 1416

The computer is MacBook Pro, 1.83 GHz Intel Core Duo, 1GB RAM, Radeon x1600, OS X 10.4.6.

Download Flash Player public beta 9.0.18.0 from Macromedia Adobe website.

Stumble it!

  1. I had similar results to yours, but I still think the Flash on a Mac sucks big time, and here is why.
I ran same benchmark in Vista beta 2 on the same machine (MBPro), and while the final score was only a marginally better in IE 7 than Safari, every single test looked so much better and smoother. After seeing that I was dissapointed after my initial thrill with the results. What have they done with the Mac version to lose frames without reporting them (it sure looked a lot worse), I really don’t know. Maybe next beta improve on that. Fingers crossed.
