Firefox 2 - a couple of handy tips

Sun, 29 October 2006

I know there are just over 337 billion things you can do with Firefox, but here are two handy tips how to get rid of some annoyances.

If you want to bookmark a page and drag the favicon onto your bookmarks bar, there is always that annoying tool tip in the way, preventing you from dropping the link where you wanted.

To switch the tool tip off, go into Firefox config mode (type about:config in the address bar and hit the enter key) and find the following key: browser.chrome.toolbar_tips and change the value to false (double clicking on it will toggle between true and false)

Another thing that I never found any use for is the go button, right to the address bar. I use lots of keyboad shortcuts and the one to go to the specific url is incredibly simple - after keying in the address, just hit the enter key :-)

To turn this button off, simply find browser.urlbar.hideGoButton key in Firefox config and change it to true, and the go button does what it’s told to do - it goes.

Stumble it!
