Apple releases new iMac - 17″ Education version

edu_imac.jpgApple has released a new version of iMac, the 17 inch model specifically made for education customers.

The regular 17″ iMac costs A$ 1,999.00 but the education price for the same is A$ 1,799.60. The new, let’s call it Edu-iMac has the price tag of only A$ 1,428.90 (US$ 899.00 in the USA)

So what’s the difference? Well, the Edu iMac has the same amount o memory - 512 MB, but this time it’s 2x 256 MB while iMac has 1×512 MB and one free slot.

The new Edu-iMac has also the combo drive (reads DVD, writes CDs) while iMac has dual layer super drive.

And finally the new iMac has integrated graphics, the Intel GMA 950 graphics with 64MB of shared memory and not the ATI Radeon X1600 graphics with 128MB GDDR3 memory as found on iMac.

Two more things are missing, one is the Apple Remote and the other is that half of the hard drive is gone, the drive capacity is 80GB and not 160 as on iMac.

Stumble it!

  1. I think I’d rather get the 24 inch instead of the 17 inch.
