If you ever wanted to change the document default icon but don’t want to use tools like Candy Bar, here is a simple way how to do it manually. All you have to do is to go to the resources for particular application, find the icon set and replace it with the one you like. I’ll use Smultron as an example, a nice text editor with the set of icons that I didn’t really like and wanted to use something more ‘textier’ .

Below is the view of Finder with a Smultron file.txt using the default icon.

To chane this we need to go to ~/Applications/ and right click on the Smultron icon.

Japanes company Evergreen has just released the worlds cheapest MP3 player – DN-2000, costing only 999 Yen (about A$12).

dn-2000_1.jpgThe player is very small, 60×60x13 mm and it comes with neck strap and headphones but no memory. What, no memory? That’s right, it uses the SD card to store your MP3 files and supprts SD cards up to 1GB. The player uses one AAA battery and it runs for about five hours on it.

There is no display but the player has start, stop, volume up and down, next and previous song controls. It also doesn’t have shuffle function and it will play the songs in the same sequence every time. But for the price of a pizza …

I spend a lot of my time in different internet forums and one topic that pops every so often is switching to Mac. Before I switched to Mac I was a regular poster asking all sorts of questions, trying to figure out if tossing out my hard earned dollar on Apple computer would be a clever thing to do. Generally the message was – once you switch, you never go back, which in essence is true. In this article I discussed ten things that every potential switcher should consider before making the step.
